Breastfeeding and chestfeeding parents might experience a blocked or plugged duct when there is a blockage in a milk duct. This leads to poor or insufficient drainage of the duct. When milk builds up behind the blockage, the concentration of pressure in the duct may cause local discomfort and pain in the breast, or form a lump. Plugged ducts are uncomfortable when not nursing, and can be downright painful during feeding.

If you need additional support, you can schedule a virtual or in-person Lactation Consultation.
